Consider it all joy when you encounter various trials

consider it all joy when you encounter various trials…
…so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. [James 1:2-4]
We had a snow storm come through recently and we lost power. As a result, we had to run on generator power for over four days. I would love to tell you that I trusted the Lord through the whole thing and walked in complete peace…but that would be a lie. In reality, I got really frustrated because my son had told me he prayed for the power not to go out. I was heartbroken for him. After I calmed down for a while I asked the Lord “what’s up?” What I heard was simple. He said, “I never told you that you wouldn’t go through tough things, but I did promise that I would never leave you nor forsake you in those tough things.” In addition to that, I believe hard times can be the fire that purifies. They reveal where we are and show us more than ever our great need for Him. He said “when” we face various trials, not “if”. It’s a guarantee…if we are breathing. But, He said if we would seek His wisdom through them the result would be the crown of life. Which translated out means the God life, the very character of Christ himself. So, while no one wants to go through hard times, God does great things in us through them. Think about something you have gone through recently and then think about what God wants to do in you. Sometimes the victory isn’t the absence of hard times around us but, instead, Christ overcoming what they bring up in us. Now that’s victorious living.
