You Know

You Know
“I just need something that will help me get through each day, you know, some truth from Gods word” my coworker stated as she popped her head around the corner to my office. “Something to remind me each day, can you give me something?” she asked. “You mean like, No weapon formed against you shall prosper and you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength? something like that?” as I laughed, feeling the honor to seek the Lord and write something for her… I crave those secret moments with the Lord where I can just “be” with Him and find comfort in His arms. The blessings from heaven may have ended up being more for me then I thought!
I Thank you Lord that you direct my path, that you protect me in all things and that I can trust you to do what you say in your word, for my life in all things! Thank you that when I ask you for wisdom you give it freely, that when I ask you for peace & grace, you give it abundantly. You say; blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for I am more profitable than silver and yield better returns than gold. I am more precious than rubies; nothing that anyone desires can compare with me. Long life is in my right hand; in my left hand are riches and honor. That my ways are pleasant ways, and all my paths are of peace. Prov 3:13-17 Thank you that even when things feel hard, that I can Consider it pure joy, because whenever I face trials of many kinds, You say; that the testing of my faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that I may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. That if I lack wisdom in anything, I can ask you God, and you will give it generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to me! Thank you that you are faithful to complete what you start in me o Lord! I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus! James1:2-6; Phil 1:6 What a promise Lord! Thank you for your promises!
Thank you O Lord that I can love my enemies as myself like Jesus did, because You dwell in me and you lead me through all things. Thank you that when I pass through the waters you will be with me, that when I pass through the rivers they will not sweep over me! That when I walk through the fire, I WILL NOT GET BURNED!!! Isaiah 43:2. Thank you God that you supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory! Phil 4:19 You know every need in my life and you care about all things, there is nothing too small for you, thank you Lord that you help me and that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Phil 4:13 Thank you God that the peace of you, God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard my hearts and my minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7 Thank you that I have the mind of Christ and that you God have already given me everything I need for life and godliness! 1Cor 2:16; 2Peter 1:3
Thank you that NO weapon in this world that the enemy might try to use against me shall prosper, that this is my heritage of the Lord, and that my righteousness is from you Lord. Isaiah 54:17 Thank you Lord that  your love and faithfulness never leave me; that you bind them around my neck and write them on the tablet of my heart & I will win favor and a good name in the sight of you God and also in man. I trust in you Lord with all my heart, and do not rely on my own understanding and in all my ways I acknowledge You, and You will make my paths straight! Prov 3:3-6
Thank you God that you protect & defend me! That your word says; whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.I will say to you Lord, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust! Thank you that you will save me from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover me with his feathers, and under his wings I will find refuge; that your faithfulness will be my shield and rampart. I will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will NOT come near ME!.” Psalm 91:1-7 Thank you Lord that You clothe me with strength and dignity and I laugh without fear of the future and that when I speak, my words are wise, and I give instructions with kindness. Prov 31:25-26

The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.’

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil his promises to her!’

Luke 1:30-33, 39-45

This is the third in a series of reflections and prayers for Advent.

When I realized I was pregnant I was overjoyed. So was my husband. We hadn’t wanted to start a family for many years and then when we ‘tried’ nothing happened… for a long time! So much of the JOY I experienced then was about a longing fulfilled.

Some couples don’t want to have children. Some are unable to conceive, which can be heart-breaking (and they may need wise, sensitive and prayerful friends alongside them).

The thing that brings me joy more than anything is another longing fulfilled. It’s about a deep and intimate connection with God through Jesus…it’s the GOOD NEWS … the Gospel.  Whatever my circumstances (which may make me feel happy or sad) I have an unshakable joy in the Lord.

Reflect on together: Where, and how, do I find joy in my life?

Prayer (as a couple)
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the JOY of the Good News of Jesus, our Saviour. Thank you that because of his life, death and resurrection we can live lives intimately connected to you. Thank you that your joy doesn’t depend on circumstances. Please fill our hearts, marriages and families afresh with your overflowing joy through the Holy Spirit this Christmas season. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Prayer (for others)
Heavenly Father, we pray for … and … Help them to see that their deepest longings can be fulfilled in Jesus.  We pray that they would be drawn to Jesus this Christmas season and come to know your joy in their lives and their marriage. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Final Quote
But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’  Luke 2:10 (NIV)
